Andrew Bogut will be out for the remainder of the season, the Cleveland Cavaliers announced on Wednesday.
Cleveland's newest acquisition broke his left tibia on Monday in his debut against the Miami Heat after he collided with Okaro White.
Following the initial X-rays, Bogut underwent further evaluation on Tuesday at the Cleveland Clinic, where it was determined surgery would not be required.
However, Bogut will have to have "an extended period of immobilisation and healing stimulation" as he recovers, the Cavs said.
According to the team release, he is expected to be fully healed by the start of next season.
