The Cavaliers have completely overhauled a roster that was old, small and lacking defensively at the trade deadline. They brought in Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr. from the Lakers, George Hill from the Kings and Rodney Hood from the Jazz.

However, the Cavs almost had their trade for Hill and Hood scuttled at 3 a.m. ET deadline day.

According to ESPN, the Kings, Jazz and Cavaliers had agreed to a complicated three-player trade sending Hill and Hood to the Cavaliers the day before the trade deadline. But the Kings nearly nullified that trade with a memo sent in the early morning hours Thursday.

Suddenly, Kings center Georgios Papagiannis had been included as part of the three-way trade. Cleveland and Utah were adamant that Papagiannis' name had never been discussed. Williams would later say that Papagiannis or Malachi Richardson were set to be included in the deals and insisted his notes confirmed that.

This was not the deal agreed upon the day before and the Jazz and Cavaliers were understandably miffed. Cleveland general manager Koby Altman had to smooth things over with the Jazz and there had to be additions made to the deal in the closing hours to make it work.

The deal ultimately sent Jae Crowder and Derrick Rose to the Jazz and Iman Shumpert, cash and a second-round pick to the Kings. Utah also sent Joe Johnson to the Kings. It also resulted in Dwyane Wade heading back home to the Heat.

It was a challenge the Cavaliers didn't think they would have to address and one they didn't want to deal with at all, but the deal got done and the Cavaliers completed their roster overhaul. It was just a little harder than they planned.
