Carmelo Anthony discusses his time with the Knicks: ‘Overall it was great’

Carmelo Anthony had a “great experience” in New York.

The 34-year-old forward, who is now playing for the Rockets, had a rocky tenure while he was with the Knicks from 2011-17. He discussed his time in New York with reporters Thursday.

“Honestly, I didn’t have a bad experience there,” Anthony said (via the New York Daily News). “Overall, looking back on it now, I had a great, great experience in New York.”

Anthony came to New York with high expectations when he was acquired from the Nuggets in Feb. 2011. He made seven All-Star teams with the Knicks and the team reached the Eastern Conference semifinals in 2012-13.

But, Anthony’s production declined, and the team missed the playoffs during his last four seasons in New York. He was eventually traded to the Thunder in exchange for Enes Kanter, Doug McDermott and a second-round pick in September 2017.

Anthony averaged 24.7 points and seven rebounds while shooting 36.9 percent from 3-point range in 412 regular-season games with the Knicks.

“My time there, overall, I had a helluva experience,” Anthony said. “The last couple of years, it is what it is. But, overall it was great.”

Anthony has tallied 13.2 points and 5.5 rebounds in his first six games with the Rockets. Houston holds a 1-5 record.
