Two years into its new tradition of staging a regular-season game at the site of the Little League World Series, MLB will take the same idea to the college ranks next year.
The Royals and Tigers will play in Omaha the week the 2019 College World Series begins, The Associated Press reported Wednesday. Commissioner Rob Manfred is expected to make the official announcement Thursday at TD Ameritrade Park, which will host the game.
Omaha has hosted the CWS annually since 1950, and the Royals' Triple-A affiliate is based there — though it does not play at the 24,000-seat stadium.
MLB moved a Pirates-Cardinals game to Williamsport, Pa., last season, and it was such a hit the Phillies and Mets will play there this August.
