Men’s doubles pair Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong stormed to only their second final appearance of 2019.

They put on a masterful display to beat Danish pair Mathias Boe-Mads Conrad Petersen 18-21, 21-11, 21-12 at the Chinese Taipei Open.

The world number 15 pair, who had upset former world number one Lee Yong Dae-Kim Gi Jung in the quarter-finals, needed almost an hour to notch one of their finest performances of the year.

Goh-Tan will now face the winners of Choi Solgyu-Seo Seung-jae and Lee Yang-Wang Chi-Lin.

After conceding the opening game 18-21, the Malaysian pair came to life in the semi-final contest to showcase some of the form that took them within a cusp of the Olympic gold back in 2016.

With Tan dictating the front court and Goh masterminding the baseline zone, the pair leveled after a 21-11 victory to force a third game.

Again, they left the unseeded Danish pair hapless courtesy of a high attacking tempo to win 21-12, and Tan even got a high five from Boe after deceiving the southpaw with a clever cross court flick.

Bagging a second title this year would prove this pair cannot be written off just yet, especially after they left the comfort of the national setup to go independent.

Mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying however failed to follow Goh-Tan into the final, after they surrendered tamely 21-10, 21-17 to Hong Kong pair Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet.

Chan-Goh were a bundle of nerves in the match and could not keep up with the variation of attacks from their opponents to lose in 35 minutes.
