Skuad badminton negara berpegang dengan janji penganjur Terbuka Hong Kong yang menjamin keselamatan pemain di sebalik polemik politik yang berlaku di negara itu.

Atas dasar itu, terbit kebimbangan terhadap keselamatan pemain yang tetap meneruskan kempen mengutip mata berharga dalam misi layak ke Sukan Olimpik Tokyo 2020.
Bagaimanapun, Persatuan Badminton Malaysia (BAM) menerusi pengarah kejurulatihannya, Wong Choong Hann, menegaskan pemain perlu patuh kepada beberapa prosedur keselamatan yang ditetapkan dan keputusan 18 pemain ke Hong Kong -- termasuk daripada kem profesional -- mendapat persetujuan sebulat suara.
"Saya percaya penganjur akan mengambil langkah-langkah yang sepatutnya bagi menjaga keselamatan pemain.
"Jurulatih yang berada di Hong Kong telah menasihatkan agar setiap pemain tidak berlegar-legar di kawasan luar kecuali waktu makan dan apa yang perlu sahaja. Selagi arahan itu dipatuhi, segalanya akan selamat," katanya.
