Pengarah Kejurulatihan Persatuan Badminton Malaysia (BAM), Wong Choong Hann, percaya pasukannya berkemampuan untuk mencuri mata ketika menentang China dalam aksi sulung peringkat Kumpulan 1D, Piala Sudirman di Nanning, Ahad ini.
Tuan rumah, China, akan membariskan pemain yang lebih berpengalaman memandangkan Malaysia memilih untuk menurunkan pemain muda.
Bagaimanapun, Choong Hann tetap menaruh harapan kepada barisan beregu lelaki untuk melakar kejutan ke atas China.
"Secara keseluruhannya, kami masih di belakang China, namun saya masih mengharapkan kejutan daripada satu atau dua bahagian.
"Saya rasa ia mungkin akan berlaku dalam acara beregu lelaki," katanya.
Choong Hann menegaskan andai skuad negara tewas kepada China, ia bukan satu masalah besar memandangkan tumpuan sebenar adalah untuk mengatasi India bagi memburu slot ke suku akhir.
"Tumpuan kami adalah untuk menewaskan India, jadi kami tidak sepatutnya patah semangat selepas bertemu China.
"Selagi kami tahu di mana sasaran kami, kami akan lebih tenang untuk menghadapi sebarang keputusan," tambahnya.
