Following his sensational run at the 2018 BWF World Championships, Liew Daren might be included for Malaysia's badminton challenge at the 2018 Asian Games this month.
The 30-year-old, who lost to eventual winner Kento Momota in the semi-finals, became the third Malaysian to win a medal in the world meet after Wong Choong Hann and Lee Chong Wei.
Due to that, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Norza Zakaria did not rule out his inclusion for the team event.
Meanwhile, Lee Zii Jia and Leong Jun Hao would remain as the Malaysian representatives in the men's singles event.
However, Norza conceded that Liew's condition would be a factor after he picked up a slight knock during the tournament.
"We have always emphasised on performance, so Daren needs to be considered for the men's singles squad," he told Astro Arena.
"If we want to make a change, it will be for either Cheam June Wei or Soong Joo Ven.
"But we will discuss with Daren first due to his injury."
At the same time, the Asian Games involvement of men's doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Woi Yik, who reached the World Championships quarter-finals, would also be evaluated by the BAM.
"Our issue is that Aaron and Woi Yik have been registered to compete at the Vietnamese Open this week. We do not want them to play back-to-back tournaments, which might affect their performance at the Asian Games," Norza added.
