Pemain badminton Persatuan Orang Pekak Melaka (MASdeaf Melaka), Boon Yie Ying, menyatakan dia hanya berlatih sendiri di Universiti Malaya (UM), sebagai persiapan ke Kejohanan Sukan Orang Pekak Malaysia (SOPMA) Ke-19 di Sarawak.
"Setakat ini, saya masih menjalani latihan bersama jurulatih saya di UM, dan saya yakin saya boleh menghadiahkan pingat emas buat Melaka," katanya ketika ditemui.
Menurut Yie Ying lagi, ini adalah penyertaan SOPMA yang pertama buat dirinya, dan dia sangat berbangga dapat mewakili negeri Melaka.
Walaupun mempunyai masalah pendengaran sejak berusia 15 tahun, itu tidak menghalangnya untuk mencipta kejayaan buat Melaka dan Malaysia.
Yie Ying telah memenangi pingat perak dalam acara perseorangan wanita dalam Sukan Orang Pekak Ke-8 di Taiwan apabila tewas di tangan juara dunia wanita pekak dari Taiwan.
Menurut Penasihat MASdeaf Melaka, Prof. Madya Zaidi Embong, Yie Ying merupakan pemain badminton wanita harapan untuk memenangi emas pertama Malaysia di Sukan Olimpik Orang Pekak di Samsun, Turki pada 2017.
