Persaraan Datuk Lee Chong Wei membuka lembaran baru terhadap kemungkinan untuk dia satu hari nanti memimpin Persatuan Badminton Malaysia (BAM) sebagai presiden pasca-Sukan Olimpik Tokyo 2020.
Meskipun terlalu awal untuk mengenal pasti kredibilitinya sebagai presiden pada masa akan datang, BAM merancang untuk menyerapkan ikon dunia itu sebagai ahli majlis.
Itu pandangan yang ditawarkan Presiden BAM, Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria, susulan pengumuman persaraan Chong Wei daripada aksi kompetetif, Khamis lalu.
Norza sebelum ini sudah memaklumkan hasrat untuk mengundurkan diri daripada kerusi panas BAM pada 2020 bagi memberikan tumpuan penuh kepada tugasan sebagai presiden Majlis Olimpik Malaysia (MOM).
Beliau berasakan adalah tidak adil meletakkan tekanan kepada Chong Wei yang sudah dilantik sebagai chef-de-mission (CDM) kontinjen Sukan Olimpik Tokyo 2020 untuk segera memimpin BAM.
Atas dasar itu, adalah lebih baik untuk memastikan bekas pemain nombor satu dunia itu mendalami selok-belok aspek pengurusan dan pentadbiran BAM sebelum satu hari memikirkan kemungkinan memimpin badan induk badminton negara ini.
"Saya berasakan bukan sesuatu yang mustahil tetapi lebih baik untuk mendekatkan Chong Wei dalam bidang pengurusan kerana ia merupakan bidang yang berbeza dengan atlet bertaraf dunia," kata Norza.
