Liew Daren continued his excellent run at the 2018 BWF World Championships as he knocked out K. Srikanth in the third round on Thursday.

The 30-year-old, who went into the match with a 2-0 record against the Indian star, overcame the fifth seed 21-18, 21-18 in 41 minutes.

A third set was almost required as he was down 16-18 in the second set at one point, but he remained composed to seal the tie with five straight points.

Liew's next opponent is Japanese shuttler Kanta Tsuneyama, who dispatched of Frenchman Brice Leverdez 21-17, 21-15.

It was a good day for Malaysian mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying too as they reached the BWF World Championships quarter-finals together for the first time in nine years after beating English duo Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith 21-16, 17-21, 21-18.

They will next face Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet from Hong Kong, who recently defeated them at the Malaysian Masters in January.

Also advancing to the quarter-finals were Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, who beat eighth seed Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen 21-18, 21-16.

Their men's doubles win set up an encounter with China's Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen, who knocked out Malaysian pair Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong 16-21, 21-15 22-20.

Meanwhile, it was also the end of the tournament for other Malaysian shuttlers in the third round, namely Goh Jin Wei (women's singles), Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean (women's doubles), and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai (mixed doubles).
