Malaysian men's singles player Liew Daren advanced to the third round of the 2018 BWF World Championships in Nanjing, China, where he will take on world no. 6 K. Srikanth.

The world no. 38 continued his fine start to the tournament with another straight set win, beating Misha Zilberman 21-16, 21-16 under 40 minutes in the second round on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Srikanth overcame Spanish shuttler Pablo Abian 21-15 12-21 21-14 in 62 minutes.

Liew will face the Indian star for the first time in five years, when he emerged victorious at the 2013 Malaysia Masters Grand Prix Gold.



Joining him as well as mixed doubles pairs Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai and Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying in the third round was Goh Jin Wei, who beat Aya Ohori 21-18, 22-20 in the women's singles event.

Goh's first victory over the Japanese in three meetings at junior and senior levels saw her secure an encounter with defending world champion Nozomi Okuhara.

In the men's doubles event, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik grabbed a comeback win against Chinese Taipei's Lee Jhe Huei-Lee Yang 16-21, 21-18, 21-19, and Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong overcame compatriots Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi 21-16, 21-15.

As for Malaysian women's doubles players, Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean defeated German duo Isabel Herttrich-Carla Nelte 16-21, 21-17, 22-20.
