Rehat yang panjang jelas menjejaskan aksi sulung Datuk Lee Chong Wei dalam Kejohanan Siri Super Akhir apabila tumpas, 10-21, 16-21, kepada perseorangan utama Korea Selatan, Son Wan Ho, di Dubai, malam ini.
Kali terakhir Chong Wei beraksi sebelum mengalami kecederaan adalah pada 21 Oktober lalu, ketika tewas dalam suku akhir Siri Super Premier Terbuka Denmark.
Chong Wei nyata tidak berada di kemucak prestasi dengan petanda awal adalah apabila dia ketinggalan 1-7 pada set pertama.
Selepas tewas set itu, Chong Wei kembali memperkemas permainan pada set berikutnya dan memaksa Wan Ho mengerah keringat.
Bagaimanapun, rentak baik Chong Wei terhenti pada mata ke-16 dengan Wan Ho memenangi lima mata berturut-turut untuk memastikan kemenangan 21-16.
"Saya tidak ada strategi tertentu untuk perlawanan ini, cuma beraksi seperti biasa. Tetapi saya berasakan Chong Wei tidak berada di tahap yang baik dan saya bermain dengan lebih selesa. Saya fikir, itu faktor membantu saya menang," kata Wan Ho.
Chong Wei, yang masih berpeluang untuk ke separuh akhir kejohanan itu, mengakui perlu segera mengembalikan rentak dalam gelanggang atau dipaksa berputih mata.
"Saya banyak melakukan kesilapan mudah pada set pertama. Saya perlu kembali mendapat rentak dan meraih keyakinan," kata Chong Wei.
Sementara itu, badi kekalahan beregu wanita negara, Vivian Hoo Kah Mun dan Woon Khe Wei, di tangan beregu Denmark, Kamilla Rytter Juhl dan Christina Pedersen, berterusan.
Lima pertemuan sebelum ini semuanya memihak kepada gandingan Denmark itu, dengan Vivian dan Khe Wei tumbang, 7-21, 17-21, meskipun memberikan tentangan sengit dalam pertemuan terbaharu ini.
