Lee Chong Wei will face Brice Leverdez again in the first round of the 2018 BWF World Championships.

The Malaysian star, who is seeded second, suffered a shock 19-21, 24-22, 17-21 loss to the Frenchman, whom he has had an 8-2 record against, in the first round of the tournament last year.

It will be their second meeting since the match, with Lee avenging his defeat in the China Open last November, winning 21-6, 21-9.

Liew Daren, the second Malaysian men's singles participating at the tournament, will take on Indonesia's Jonatan Christie, whom he lost once to at the 2018 Malaysia Open.

Depending on results, the two Malaysians might face each other in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong (men's doubles), Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean (women's doubles), Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai (mixed doubles), and Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying (mixed doubles) received byes to the second round.

The World Championships will take place in Nanjing, China from July 30 to August 5.
