Bekas jaguh badminton negara, Datuk Lee Chong Wei, terharu dengan sambutan diberikan peminat terhadap program 'Bertemu dan Santuni Peminat' di Klebang Putra, Ipoh, sebentar tadi.
Hampir 1,000 peminat hadir dalam program anjuran Yonex-Sunrise di Akademi Badminton Lee Chong Wei itu untuk sesi bertemu dan meminta autograf bekas pemain nombor satu dunia itu.
"Saya terharu dengan kehadiran begitu ramai peminat, terutama dalam kalangan remaja.
"Saya tidak sangka program ini mendapat sambutan.
"Apapun, ia menjadi semangat dan pendorong kepada saya dalam memperjuangkan masa depan permainan badminton di negara ini walaupun sudah bersara daripada pertandingan," kata Chong Wei yang dilantik chef-de-mission kontinjen negara ke sukan Olimpik Tokyo 2020.
Dalam majlis itu juga, Chong Wei melancarkan raket baru jenama "Astrox 99".
Turut hadir dalam majlis itu ialah isteri Chong Wei, Datin Wong Mei Chew, serta Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Pelancongan, Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negeri, Tan Kar King, Naib Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Kira-kira Wang Negara, Wong Kah Woh dan Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) Canning, Jenny Choy Tsi Jen, serta wakil Yonex.
