Chong Wei yang dijadualkan bertemu pemain dari Chinese Taipei, Hsu Jen Hao, mengalami kecederaan hamstirng minggu lalu ketika beraksi di Terbuka Denmark, menyaksikan dia terkandas di peringkat suku akhir kepada pemain Perancis, Brice Leverdez.
Sementara itu, seorang lagi wakil perseorangan lelaki negara, Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin, gagal melepasi pusingan awal apabila tewas kepada pemain China, Shi Yuqi, 11-21, 19-21.
Wakil beregu campuran negara, Ong Yew Sin dan Teo Ee Yi turut mengalami nasib malang apabila tewas 21-17, 21-17 kepada pasangan Indonesia, Mohammad Ahsan dan Berry Angriawan.
Dalam pada itu, pemenang pingat perak beregu lelaki Sukan Olimpik Rio, Goh V Shem dan Tan Wee Kiong, turut terkandas di pusingan pertama apabila gagal menyekat kemaraan pasangan Denmark, Kim Astrup dan Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, 21-19, 21-17.
