Wakil tunggal negara di pentas separuh akhir, Goh Soon Huat dan Shevon Lai, gagal mara ke final kategori beregu campuran Kejohanan Badminton Terbuka Hong Kong setelah tewas di tangan wakil China, He Ji Ting-Du Yue, dalam aksi straight set 14-21, 18-21.
Kali terakhir kedua-dua beregu itu bertemu di pentas antarabangsa adalah dalam saingan Terbuka Jerman, Mac lalu, yang menyaksikan Soon Huat-Shevon mengatasi lawan itu, juga dalam straight set.
Namun, dalam aksi di Hong Kong kali ini, wakil negara itu bermula dengan agresif tetapi ketika kedudukan set pertama terikat 14-14, Ji Ting-Du Yue menukar corak permainan mereka untuk memerangkap Soon Huat-Shevon di depan jaring, sekali gus lawan meraih tujuh mata berturut-turut untuk mengatasi pasangan Malaysia itu 21-14.
Dalam set kedua, Soon Huat dan Shevon cuba memperkemaskan permainan dan mendahului buat suatu ketika tetapi kekalahan dalam babak sebelum itu tampak mematahkan semangat wakil negara tatkala lawan sekali lagi bangkit meraih tujuh mata berturut-turut dan menang 21-18.
