Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) technical director Morten Frost confirmed the future of the Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong partnership will be decided this week.
Since ending last year as world’s number one, the Rio Olympics silver medallist duo suffered a dip in form, which saw them crash out early in most tournaments in 2017.
Most recently they were knocked out of the BWF World Championships in the second round, having received a bye for the first round, and dropped to seventh in the world rankings.
Although Goh and Tan are still the highest ranked Malaysian men’s doubles pair and scheduled to compete at the Korea Open next week, Frost insisted a conclusion must be reached by the end of this week.
"I think [our discussion for now] has to stay confidential. In all fairness, it is a very frank talk and we will keep it indoor, but hopefully we will come to a conclusion soon," Frost told Astro Arena.
"Whatever happens, we have to sort it out this week."
Frost also provided his opinion to explain what caused their slump.
"I think a lot of personal stuff got their focus away from playing badminton at the highest level and suddenly they lost confidence," he added.
"The second you lose your confidence and do not dare to play or unleash the tricky shot at the tricky time, you lose."
