Mo Farah claimed his first marathon victory in Chicago with a European-record time of two hours, five minutes and 11 seconds.
The 35-year-old double Olympic champion was competing in just his third marathon, and his first in America, and claimed the win by surging clear of Ethiopia's Mosinet Geremew in the final half a mile.
Farah, who retired from the track in 2017 so he could focus on road racing, succeeded former training partner Galen Rupp in winning the race, with the defending champion finishing fifth on Sunday.
"It was great to run with Galen, who won last year, then to be able to come back and win it for myself," Farah said.
"The conditions weren't great and everyone was thinking about conditions rather than time, but towards the end we picked it up.
"I felt good towards the end of the race. At the beginning I felt a bit sluggish but overall I'm very happy with it."
The women's race was won by Kenya's Brigid Kosgei, who was runner-up last year, in a time of two hours, 18mins and 35secs.
