Malaysia are now one gold medal short of their 2018 Asian Games target after clinching their sixth thanks to Fauzi Kaman Shah on Friday.

The 15-year-old sailor, who won two SEA Games gold medals in 2015 and 2017, finished ahead of China's Wang Jianxiong and India's Harshita Tomar in the Open Laser 4.7 category for the gold medal on the final day of the sailing competition.

In the same event, national compatriot Nor Nabila Natasha Nazri finished 12th.

Malaysia's other gold medals at the 2018 Asian Games to date are two from bowling events and one apiece from track cycling, squash and sepak takraw.

On the same day, the Malaysia sailing team also contributed one silver medal through Afendy Khairulnizam in men's laser standard, and three bronze through Nur Shazrin Latif (women's laser radial), Jamil Nuraisyah and Norashikin Sayed (women's 470), and Nuur Fatin Solehah Abdul Rahman and Illham Wahab (mixed RS One).

Afendy and Latif's medal finishes also saw them secure their qualification for Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
