Malaysia finally clinched their first gold medal in sepak takraw at the Asian Games since 1994 after beating hosts Indonesia 2-1 in the men's regu final on Tuesday.
Malaysia, who finished as men's regu runners-up three times since their success 24 years ago, reached the final by sweeping past Nepal, India, South Korea and China in their preliminary group stage before beating Singapore in the semi-finals.
After surrendering the first set 18-21, the team of Syahir Rosdi, Zulkifli Abdul Razak, Norhaffizi Abdul Razak, Farhan Adam and Azlan Alias were on the verge of losing the final as they were down 11-15 in the second set.
However, they came back to win 22-20 before sealing the third set with a convincing 21-11 score.
The gold medal was Malaysia's second overall 2018 Asian Games medal win after they bagged silver in the men's team regu event.
