WVU-Va. Tech game at FedEx Field switches dates

The season opener between Virginia Tech and West Virginia at FedEx Field has been moved back a day, to Sept. 3, the schools announced Friday.

The 7:30 p.m. ET game from the Washington Redskins' home stadium will be nationally televised on ABC.

Tickets are already on sale for students at Virginia Tech, and tickets go on sale to Hokie Club members and Virginia Tech football season ticket holders on Tuesday. WVU's Mountaineer Athletic Club (MAC) members for 2016 and 2017 and 2016 season ticket holders will have the first opportunity to order tickets through the Mountaineer Ticket Office to be seated in West Virginia's ticket allotment.

The series between the two schools dates back to 1912, although West Virginia and Virginia Tech have not played for the Black Diamond Trophy since 2005.
