New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul's resurgent season will be cut short.
The frontrunner for NFL Comeback Player of the Year underwent surgery on a core-muscle injury and will need six weeks to recover, NFL Network reported. He could make a return if the Giants (8-4) make a deep run in the playoffs.
Pierre-Paul confirmed the operation by posting a photo to his Instagram account in a hospital gown with the caption: "Let's do this thing."
The 27-year-old later posted in two separate Tweets: "Surgery went well and feeling way better already. God is good. Time to heal up."
Pierre-Paul suffered the injury in Sunday's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The defensive end has three forced fumbles and seven sacks in 2016 after a fireworks accident in the previous year left him with a disfigured hand and forced him to miss eight games that season.
