Brady's Patriots to 'empty the tank' preparing for Texans

Tom Brady is not taking anything for granted going into the AFC divisional playoff on Saturday, despite the New England Patriots' recent dominance over the Houston Texans.

The Patriots have beaten the Texans in their last five meetings, outscoring their opponents 171-79 in the process and are favoured by the bookmakers to win by two touchdowns this weekend.

Nevertheless, Brady told WEEI the home team will be ignoring the omens in their favour at Gillette Stadium.

"This is a day-to-day league," the quarterback said.

"It really doesn't matter last time we played them or last year because things change so much with the game and a game plan and players. Coach [Bill] Belichick talks about that all the time - it's not who you play, it's how you play. We need to play well.

"When you look at games like earlier in the season against them, we played well," he said, referring to a 27-0 win in September.

"We shut them out. We did a lot of things that are [indicators of] winning football. We talked about that over the course of the whole season, but none of that stuff really matters if we don't do that this week. You put together the process and the winning formula and you need to go out and execute it. If you don't execute it, you lose.

"I don't think you take anything for granted. I don't think you mail in your preparation. I think we go about it the exact same way we've gone about it all year. We put everything into it this week. We empty the tank in our practices, which we always do, and then you come out at the end of the week with confidence, ready to go out there and show everyone that we are prepared and that we can play."

Brady watched the Texans defense dominate the Oakland Raiders on Saturday, singling out defensive end Jadeveon Clowney for putting great pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

"We're playing a really good team. We are playing a team that has earned this opportunity. They have the number one defense in the league [in yards allowed]. I studied them all day yesterday. They have a damn good defense.

"They play very sound and that is why they are the number one defense in the league. There's nothing easy about this game for our offense. We're going to have to grind it out. We have to get our mind right and we will.

"We had a good week of practice last week and we need to carry it over to today, all the way through Saturday night."
