Ben Roethlisberger not committing to playing for Steelers next season

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger turns 35 in March and is starting to think about calling time on his career.

Roethlisberger plans to "evaluate things" with his family before deciding on whether to return for a 14th NFL season.

The two-time Super Bowl champion wants to make sure continuing would be the "right thing" to do.

"I'm going to take this offseason to evaluate, to consider all options," Roethlisberger told radio station 93.7 The Fan.

"To consider health, and family and things like that and just kind of take some time away to evaluate next season, if there's going to be a next season."

Roethlisberger missed some time in 2016 due to a knee injury and suggested injury concerns could play into his final decision.

"At this point in my career I think it's prudent to evaluate and just make sure," he said.

"You want to be able to leave this game walking out of it, and in a healthy spot. You don't want to be carted out. You don't want to leave this game and be worse for the wear

"That's why I think it's prudent to evaluate."
