Courchevel giant slalom cancelled due to strong winds

Strong winds led to the ladies FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup giant slalom in Courchevel being cancelled on Tuesday.

Italian Sofia Goggia held a lead of 0.02 seconds over compatriot Federica Brignone when the weather prevented the event from being concluded.

Nineteen skiers had descended when the race was postponed at 12:20 local time.

The athletes had agreed to restart proceedings at a reserve position 70 metres down the slope, but the wind did not die down for a restart.

A replacement location and time for the race has not yet been confirmed.
